Thomas Roussel

THOMAS ROUSSEL (born in 1979) is a French Paris based composer and conductor. For 12  years now, he has collaborated with many prestigious orchestras and musicians.

He co-composed Jeff Mills’ now famous “Blue Potential” and “Light from the Outside World”  which are still played around the world. Approached by Loris Gréaud who asked him to  collaborate on his contemporary art project “Cellar Door” Thomas composed an opera and  recorded it with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

He’s been experimenting in the last few years new ways of using the orchestra, by creating state of-the-art scenography and music composition for fashion shows of Chanel, Kenzo, Michael Kors,  Givenchy Couture, Nike, Dior Couture or Dior Homme for whom he worked on a scenography,  deconstructing the orchestra and placing sitting musicians in a straight line in Paris and in circle in  Guangzhou.

Thomas was also part of the Paris bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics by creating a rework of the  Famous ‘Boléro de Ravel’ which was performed live by more than 80 musicians on La Seine river  during summer 2017. Under the alias of Prequell, Thomas released end of 2017 his album ‘The  Future Comes Before’ which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony  Orchestra.

In 2018, Thomas was appointed by Pedro Winter to create and conduct a 90 minutes orchestra  concert for the 15 years of Ed Banger Records at Le Grand Rex, by translating hits from Justice,  SebastiAn, Breakbot, Mr Oizo or Laurent Garnier (to name a few) into symphonic pieces, also  performed on France Inter along with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

Highlights of the past few years could also include a majestic performance in front of the Tai Miao  temple at the Forbidden City in Beijing, the inauguration of Zaha Hadid’s Morpheus Tower in  Macau, the launch of the Porsche Taycan in Fuzhou (China), Apple TV+ in New York at the Lincoln  Center, the Women’s Pavilion closing Ceremony at Dubai Expo or Cartier fine jewellery shows in  Seoul, Paris and Monte Carlo.
