Brandt Brauer Frick

In 2020, Brandt Brauer Frick went back to work, with the spontaneity and effervescence that have characterized them since their beginnings. One desire dominates these first work sessions and improvisations: « we wanted to go back to club music, to write more minimal music while preventing ourselves from adding too much to the arrangements and production. This record also has a narrative aspect that is directly inspired by the course of a night in a club where you live different experiences » explains the band. A construction that inspired the name of the album at the beginning of its creation: Multi Faith Prayer Room. Little by little, a total aesthetic approach is woven that goes beyond the framework of a simple concept album.

After years of traveling the world, the three musicians found themselves faced with a rather difficult observation: « We have the impression that we are drowning in the present. People can no longer project themselves into an idea of the future as some did in the 1970s for example. We decided to reconnect with the concept of utopia and encourage in our own way positive thinking about the future, away from the rise of populism. »

Multi Faith Prayer Room gradually became the projection of the group’s vision: a polyphonic musical and visual space where all voices can be heard to regain a foothold in the construction of their stories.

An album of electronic music that gracefully blends instrumental practice, technological production and melodic pop writing. This new collection of tracks and its visual declensions sound like so many proofs of an inspiring versatility and a talent for a mutant writing, which experiments without ever leaving its public on the side. Tracks made for the dancefloor meet futuristic protest songs or languid analog tracks. House, electronic soul, techno, electro-acoustic music, synth pop, future R’n’B, Brandt Brauer Frick transcends styles and produces a nectar that has rarely been so intoxicating. « Previously, we sounded like a strange translation of classical music. This time, we started from there to build a bridge between pop and club music » explains the trio.

With powerful and narrative instrumental tracks that echo the reflection offered by the Multi Faith Prayer Room, Brandt Brauer Frick make a big place in their music for vocalists invited to inhabit these new pieces: Mykki Blanco, Sophie Hunger, Azekel & Marina Herlop or Duane Harden. « We wanted to collaborate with people from various musical scenes and backgrounds, in line with the concept of Multi Faith Prayer Room » insists the group. These voices were sampled and often played as instruments, citing the science of the vocal loop in French house music as a sonic influence. The group also collaborated with Iranian director Ana Lily Amirpour and cartoonist Jamie Wolfe on the video for Mad Rush, an ambitious visual work denouncing the situation of women in Iran and promoting a message of peace, respect and tolerance.

Multi Faith Prayer Room was conceived by its authors as a utopia of creative freedom and a message of hope. It is also one of the most inventive, burning and obvious records of the moment, the mark of a band in direct contact with its public, which embodies the vision of a creative and optimistic future.
